Penfield Republicans

Penfield Town Supervisor

George C. Wiedemer-Monroe County Legislator 9th District

George C. Wiedemer

George C. Wiedemer grew up in Gates, New York, the second oldest of 12 children. He graduated with degree in Business Administration from the University of Dayton, Ohio. George served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1965 until 1971, achieving the rank of first lieutenant. His career was in the food service equipment industry from 1965 until 2002, where he was part owner and President of Cable-Wiedemer, Inc. During that time, George served on the executive boards of two national associations within that industry.

George's second career has been in the political arena. Although involved in politics as a young man working with the Republican Committee in Gates, it was after his move to Penfield in 1974 that he devoted more time to working on campaigns. In 1985, George was appointed to fill the vacancy on the County Legislature, and went on to be elected to that position seven times. During his tenure on the Legislature, George served as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee (1993-1997), Agenda/Charter Chairman (1998-99), Public Safety Chairman (1987), and Human Services Chairman (2002-2003).

While on the County Legislature, George co-authored the historic anti-smoking regulations for Monroe County, sponsored funding for Alternatives for Battered Women, led the fight to stop illegal charges on mobile home communities in Penfield, and was active in the bipartisan efforts to restore funding for some necessary services in the 2002 Monroe County budget.

Elected Penfield Town Supervisor in 2003, George's tenure at the Town Hall has been committed to keeping Penfield's government accessible, open and responsive. He is focused on good communication, cooperation with other levels of government, teamwork with Town Board members, addressing issues early before they become problems, hard work, and a business friendly attitude with residents and businesses in Penfield. George invites everyone to stop by to see him during regular office hours, or on the second Saturday of each month at his “Saturday with the Supervisor” sessions from 9:30 until 11:30. You can also call his office anytime at 340-8630.

George has been active in his community in several volunteer activities. He is involved in his church, St. Joseph's, has served on the Penfield Little League Board and as Board president, is Chairman of the Foodlink Foundation Board, serves on the Board of St. John's Meadows, and is a Board member and past president of the Penfield Business Association.

George and his wife Cathy have been married for 39 years, and residents of Penfield for 32 years, residing at 244 Hillary Lane. They have four grown children and six grandchildren: daughter Mary Beth and Scott Ebersol and their 3 children, Katie, Emily and Andrew; daughter Susan and Kevin Clark and their 2 children, Alex and Avery; daughter Kristen and Keith Lancaster and their daughter, Anna; and son Michael.
