General Election

Early Voting: October 26 - November 3

  • Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday & Friday: 9 am - 5 pm

  • Tuesday & Thursday: 12 - 8 pm

How to Register to Vote in New York


  • In Person: Visit the Monroe County Board of Elections at 39 W. Main Street, Rochester (Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM).

  • Online: Register through the DMV Motor Voter page by clicking here

  • By Phone: Call (585) 753-1550 to request a voter application by mail.

  • By Mail: Request a voter application to be mailed to you or download and print the NYS Voter Registration Form, complete and sign it, and mail it to the Monroe County Board of Elections, 39 W. Main Street, Rochester, NY 14614.

Your completed application must be received no later than 25 days before the election you wish to vote in.

Voter Qualifications


  • Age: Must be 18 years old by the election date.

  • Citizenship: Must be a United States Citizen.

  • Residency: Must be a resident of Monroe County for at least 30 days prior to the election.

  • Legal Status: Must not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction and must not be claiming the right to vote elsewhere.

Absentee Voting


Qualifications & Information

You may qualify to vote by absentee ballot if:

  • You will be away from your county of residence on Election Day due to duties, occupation, business, or vacation.

  • You are confined due to illness, physical disability, or for another reason either temporarily or permanently.

Updating Voter Registration


Updating Your Voter Information

  • Permanently Registered: Once registered, you remain registered unless you move.

  • Changes: Submit a new registration form for name, address, or party enrollment changes.

    • Moved: Notify the Board of Elections by: 25 days before the election if by mail. 20 days before the election if in person.

      After notifying, you can call for your new polling site and vote on a paper ballot.

    • Enrollment Changes: Take effect after the first general election at least 25 days after the form is filed.
